Michael Mancienne has joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on a one-year loan deal.
The Chelsea youngster made 25 appearances for the Black Country side last season and has been sent back by Carlo Ancelotti as he looks for his young stars to gain as much first team experience as possible.
Welcome to a new season of reserve team football at Chelsea football club. These match reviews for the reserves will be slightly different to a lot of other match reviews that you will see, as there are always so many different reports out there i am going to do something a little different. I will be giving a general overview of the game of how the team played but the focus of these reviews will be on how each individual player performed during the game. The idea is to give a better insight into the players for those who don’t know much about them and if you do know about them but didn’t catch the game then you will be able to find out individually how they performed.
For the coming season it had been known for some time that Carlo Ancelotti had planned to use a number of young players in the squad. There was a lot of discussion among Chelsea fans as to who those players were going to be. Unfortunately one of the players who would probably have been included was Sam Hutchinson who has now been forced to retire due to chronic knee problems. It may be that Michael Mancienne is kept around now because of the absence of Hutchinson as Carlo hinted that Mancienne may stay. Although for the purpose of this article I will only focus on the four players which Carlo has confirmed will be included with first team duties for this season. It should also be noted that Josh McEachran has been handed a first team squad number.
In the third and final part of the Youth and Reserves season preview the focus will be placed on the players who are expected to go out on loan and the players who are expected to be part of the first team this season. This is without doubt the hardest part of the Youth and Reserves to discuss because as we stand it is very difficult to know, and it is open to opinion until the decisions are made by Carlo Ancelotti, Frank Arneson and Neil Bath.
In Part 2 of the Youth and Reserves season preview I will be focusing on the reserve team for the coming season. There has been a fair amount of change in the Reserves so let us start on those changes in this preview. First let us cover the players who have left Chelsea this summer, those players are players that have been regulars for the main part in the reserves squad. First one to depart in Niclas Heimann, Heimann hadn’t played that many games for the Reserves but has been in the age group for a while now.
In the first of this three part season preview for the Chelsea Youth and Reserves I will be focusing at the bottom, the Youth team. Over the course of these previews I will cover all the way up to players breaking into the first team and those moving on or going out on loan. Following a very exciting season at the academy level of Chelsea hopefully we can see that carry on into the new season and see more exciting things from a lot of exciting players.
