The Ivory Coast have been boosted by the news that Didier Drogba may be able to take part in this summer’s World Cup.
There were fears Les Elephants would be without their talismanic captain after a collision with Japan’s Tulio in a 2-0 victory which saw Drogba break a bone near his elbow.
Drogba was taken to see a pair of specialists in Switzerland and the surgeons are confident the Chelsea striker will be fit for the tournament.
No confirmation has been made by Sven-Goran Eriksson but the Ivory Coast medical team have tipped their star player to be fit for their opening game with the Portuguese on June 15th.
Drogba enjoyed his most prolific season yet in 2009/10, scoring 29 times as Chelsea went on to win the Premier League and 37 goals in all competitions.
He was also named the club’s player of the year and was amongst the favourites to land the Golden Shoe at this summer’s tournament prior to the injury.
