We signed him-along with his brothers- ahead of Barcelona and plenty of other giants as one of the brightest talents in European football. And since then, Charly Musonda Jr. has developed quite nicely, albeit away from any first time football with us and anywhere really, that was until last winter.
The crown jewel of our youth batch decided to try his luck on loan, after a loan move had been resisted for some unknown reason by our previous manager Jose Mourinho.
And since his move, things have gone swimmingly for the young Belgian, who not only cemented his place in the starting line up of Betis with some exceptional performances, but also became something of a local hero in Andalusia.
And now, the management at Betis have confirmed that Musonda is likely to stay in Spain next season to continue his development (sadly I could not find an English link to the interview but here it is in Spanish)
The club are probably going with the principle of if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it” and it has certainly not been broken in our youngster’s case, with the last few months being an incredible learning experience for the 19-year old, with his consistently improving performances proving it.
With all the hype surrounding Musonda, it is crucial that he gets enough play time to improve and hopefully live up to the buzz in the beehive that is Chelsea Football Club.
