Chelsea suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat in yesterday’s late kick off against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal had not even scored a goal against Chelsea let alone beaten them in the last seven league meetings between the two sides.
The gunners were right at it from the first whistle, Santi Cazorla had an early shot beaten away by Thibaut Courtois the warning signs were there.
The performance especially the first half was an absolute horror show from Chelsea. Just like last Friday’s game against Liverpool, it was Gary Cahill who was found wanting at the back. The defender made a shocking error for the first goal, he seemed to miss kick what looked like an attempted back pass which allowed Alexis Sanchez in to score Arsenal’s first after 11 minutes.
Shortly after Theo Walcott made it 2-0. Eden Hazard this time failing to track back letting in Arsenal’s young Spanish defender Hector Bellerin to make a cross for an easy tap in.
Chelsea tried to respond with Willian having a shot that went narrowly wide, the only real chance we had in the game.
Five minutes before half time Chelsea again were caught out at the back. A two on two left Cahill and David Luiz running to the same man leaving Mesut Ozil completely unmarked at the back post to make it 3-0.
At this point it was Chelsea’s worst performance in recent memory, something had to change. Ten minutes into the second half Antonio Conte experimented, changing to a back three. A formation he used at Juventus and with Italy during this summer’s European Championships.
Sadly for Chelsea it was to little to late and Arsenal comfortably held on to their 3-0 lead to take all three points.
If us Chelsea fans are not worried we should be. We’ve now dropped to 8th in the table having failed to win in our last three Premier League games.
Conte has to solve the defensive problems, starting with removing Ivanovic and Cahill from the squad or this season could end up going the same way as last costing him his job.
