Former Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero believes Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has unfinished business with Italy, FourFourTwo reports.
There have been plenty of rumours over Conte’s future at the Blues this season after some poor results and potential discontent between himself and the board.
However, these rumours have been dismissed by the Italian as Chelsea have gone on a three-game league winning streak.
But Del Piero wants Conte to take charge of the national team again as Italy are losing 1-0 on aggregate to Sweden in a World Cup qualification play-off tie.
FourFourTwo quotes Del Piero saying:
“We would love to have him back in Italy, of course, because he is a great coach. He would improve any team and this is what he did with Chelsea last season and what he did with Juve as well.”
Chelsea needs Conte more than Conte needs Chelsea
If Antonio Conte were to leave Chelsea later this season, it would be a tragedy for the club.
This season has been far from a replica of the 2015/16 campaign. Despite being nine points behind league leaders Manchester City we are still in the title race. The Blues are also on the brink of earning a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
There’s a chance the two parties could end terms at the end of the season. But at least for now, Conte remains our manager.
