Antonio Conte has warned the club’s record signing Alvaro Morata that he needs to improve his fitness levels if he is to be Chelsea’s leading man come the start of the season, according to The Sun.
The former Real Madrid striker made his full debut for Chelsea on Saturday as Antonio Conte’s side lost 2-1 to Inter Milan.
However, The Sun reports that the Chelsea manager was far from impressed with the 24-year-old’s fitness level during the match against Inter Milan and has told the striker that he needs to improve his condition or face being left on the bench for the beginning of the season.
Conte told The Sun: “He has to improve his condition a lot to adapt quickly into our team… Today he tried his best but for sure he has to improve.”
This news is sure to act as encouragement to fellow Blues forward Michy Batshuayi who will be looking to keep Alvaro Morata out of the starting eleven.
During Chelsea’s tour of the Far East, the Belgium international scored three times in three matches, giving Conte plenty to think about ahead of Chelsea’s Community Shield final game against Arsenal on Sunday.
