Antonio Conte’s future at Chelsea is in doubt after the club failed to secure any of his transfer targets, according to the Mirror.
As per the Mirror, Conte had set his heart on signing Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, who is now poised to join Manchester United. It is reported that the Italian was ‘fuming’ at how Chelsea allowed the deal to slip through their fingers, and Lukaku subsequently sign for a direct rival.
The Mirror believe that Conte is also dissatisfied that Chelsea failed in their attempts to sign Alexis Sanchez and Virgil van Dijk, and are struggling to get deals for Alex Sandro and Tiemoue Bakayoko over the line.
Conte’s frustrations are completely justified. He took a team that was battered and broken from tenth to the top of the table, but has still not been adequately backed in the transfer market. If he does, as the Mirror believe he may, leave because of this, it’ll be one of the biggest mistakes Roman Abramovich has made as Chelsea owner.
