Chelsea have insisted that head coach Antonio Conte is happy at the club, report Sky Sports.
Reports last night suggested that Conte is on the brink of leaving the club, as he is unhappy with the Chelsea hierarchy and their lack of transfer activity. Conte is believed to be disgruntled that none of his transfer targets have been brought in, as he prepares for the new season.
Sky Sports report that they understand that Chelsea are confident that Conte will remain at the club and that he will return to pre-season in the first week of July.
Coming off the back of his Premier League-winning debut season in West London, Conte is believed to be keen to add more players to his squad, ahead of the new season and the added challenge of Champions League football.
What prompted the reports of friction between Conte and the Chelsea brass, report Sky Sports, is believed to be Diego Costa’s claim that Conte had sent him a text message, telling the striker that he was not part of his plans for the future and that he could leave this summer.
However, Sky Sports state that it is understood that Conte has made technical director Michael Emenalo and director Marina Granovskaia aware of his transfer targets and that Chelsea will continue to pursue them.
According to reports, Chelsea are believed to be close to signing Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko and Everton’s Romelu Lukaku, but deals for the pair are yet to materialise.
Following Chelsea’s title win, Conte said that he wished to remain at Chelsea for a long time, say Sky Sports, but also stated that in “modern football it’s very difficult”.
