David Luiz is a wanted man after falling out with manager Antonio Conte.
A long-term knee injury has hampered his chances of getting back in the Italian’s good books.
This has led to interest from plenty of teams around Europe as the 29-year-old’s future at Stamford Bridge has remained in doubt.
However, Luiz’s options have now been narrowed down. That’s according to Spanish newspaper El Pais who understand that Barcelona have dropped out of the race to sign the defender.
Despite Javier Mascherano likely to leave the Catalan club in January, Barcelona are wary of Luiz’s injury and fitness.
As per El Pais, the La Liga giants have also cited Palmerias centre-back Yerry Mina as their preferred signing.
Will Chelsea sign a centre-back in January?
With Virgil van Dijk’s £75m move to Liverpool confirmed, it looks unlikely the Blues will bolster options at the back.
Burnley’s James Tarkowski has been a recent name added to the Chelsea rumour mill. However, Conte may prefer to strengthen in other positions of his squad.
Whether Luiz stays or goes, there isn’t a real need to sign a centre-back next month.
