Chelsea could be stuck with want-away striker Diego Costa until the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

As the Daily Mail report, Costa wants to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, and Antonio Conte has no interest in keeping him as part of his squad for next season.

However, the tabloid note that Costa only has eyes for Atletico Madrid, who he left to join Chelsea in the summer of 2014. This is where it gets complicated.

Atletico are banned from making transfers, but as the Daily Mail report, in theory, they can still sign players, but will not be able to register them until January. The Daily Mail believe that an option considered was signing Costa and loaning him out until that time, but they note that FIFA prohibit any player being sent out on loan until they are registered.

This means that Costa may well not have any choice but to stay put in SW6, against what the Daily Mail believe would be his, and his manager’s will.
