Chelsea have been handed a major boost in their efforts to convince Thibaut Courtois to extend his contract with the club, according to the London Evening Standard.
As per the London Evening Standard, Courtois has been standing firm over his wage demands, with the Belgian international believing that he is worthy of a lucrative £200K-a-week deal. This has, as the paper report, stalled negotiations between the club and player.
The London Evening Standard believe that Courtois’ reluctance to commit his future to the Premier League champions sparked fears that he could make a summer move to Real Madrid, but Los Blancos’ interest in signing him appears to have now cooled.
It is reported by the London Evening Standard that Real Madrid have given no indications that a bid for Courtois is imminent, and they are currently pursuing other targets. Fingers crossed, that means that he will be sticking around in SW6 beyond this summer.
