Conte’s first season at the Blues was near perfect having won the Premier League title and creating a new formula for the team’s success, with the transformation to a three at the back formation.
The disappointment of losing the FA Cup Final last season at the hands of Arsenal has grown on the club, with this campaign causing further frustrations.
Rifts between Conte and the Chelsea hierarchy as well as poor performances on the field, have seen the team fall to fifth in the league table, five points away from a Champions League spot.
Alonso, who was signed by the Italian on last season’s transfer deadline day for £23m, expressed his admiration for Conte and insists there is plenty to fight for this season, as he spoke to Marca.
The Standard quotes Alonso saying:
“Now we have an important end of the year, to qualify for the Champions League and fight for the FA Cup.
“He has done a great job and we only think about finishing well.”
In the grand scheme of things, earning a place in Europe’s elite competition as well as FA Cup triumph would be a great outcome to what’s been a turbulent season for the club.
