Barkley’s contract at Everton was set to expire at the end of the season and the champions used the player’s unsettling situation at his former club to great effect.
The player pulled the plug on a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer as a consistent hamstring injury put doubts into Barkley’s mind.
Cahill is someone that knows Barkley well after spending time together with the Three Lions. The Blues captain feels that Chelsea is the perfect destination for the 24-year-old to enhance his career, as The Standard reports.
Cahill is quoted by The Standard saying:
“Now it’s just ready for a platform for him to go out and express himself. This club will give him that, like they gave me and others.
“It’s down to him to take it. But it’s a very exciting signing and for the money, it has to be a bargain.”
The recent signing took part in an individual training session at the club’s Cobham training ground on Sunday.
Barkley deserves patience after signing for Chelsea
The thought of leaving Everton to join Chelsea is a step up for any player. This means that Barkley does join us with some pressure on his shoulders.
After spending six months out with a hamstring injury, this also may hold the midfielder back despite insisting he has recovered. It’s worth pointing out that Barkley hasn’t been in match action at all this season.
Chelsea fans, the players and even Antonio Conte need to give Barkley patience, which I’m confident he’ll get.
