There has been an update on the situation surrounding Thibaut Courtois’ contract, and it’s promising.
As Sky Sports reported prior to our clash with Qarabag on Wednesday evening, Courtois revealed that there had been no talks held over extending his deal with the Premier League champions. The Belgian added that there will be time for those discussions to take place towards the end of the season, but they are not a priority right now.
However, this new report suggests that Courtois is ready to commit his future to the club – and soon.
According to The Sun (via HLN), Courtois wants to sign a contract extension, but the club will have to meet his £210K-a-week demands if he is going to sign along the dotted line.
The Sun claim that £210K-a-week, which works out a whopping £10.9M-a-year, would make Courtois the highest paid player in the Premier League.
A price we have to pay.
Courtois is one of the best goalkeepers on the planet. In the modern game, you have to be prepared to pay these extortionate figures in order to appease footballers. The same will apply with Eden Hazard when his contract is due for extension.
