David Luiz is a shock contender to be named Chelsea captain, according to The Sun.
John Terry wore the armband for over a decade, but after he departed at the end of his contract last week, we now find ourselves without a designated leader in the dressing room.
Gary Cahill, who is the club’s vice-captain, was given the privilege throughout the previous campaign, and had his hands on the Premier League title along side Terry at the Blues’ coronation in May.
However, The Sun believe that Cahill is not guaranteed to be given the role full-time, and faces competition from defensive counterpart Luiz.
As per The Sun, Luiz has established himself as a dominant figure in the Chelsea squad since his return to the club last summer, and has staked his claim to follow in Terry’s footsteps and become captain.
Luiz is quite a character, and there can be no doubting that he loves the club. The Brazilian is certainly a worthy candidate.
