Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard is a time ticking bomb at Chelsea that is ready to go off and who can blame him?

The Belgian has spent six years here and his performances have merited a chance to play for Europe’s best and unfortunately we’re not in that bracket right now.

When Hazard signed for Chelsea in 2012, if fans suggested that he would be playing as a sole striker in six years time he would have laughed at us. This role clearly doesn’t suit him and he’s clearly not happy playing in this position.

Several factors can be blamed. Antonio Conte’s persistence on selecting him there, the form of Alvaro Morata or the squad should have enough quality for any manager in the world not to even think of playing the natural winger as a ‘false nine’.

The situation we find ourselves in is incredibly fragile. If the Blues did make the Champions League next season that may give Hazard more of an incentive to stay but the board needs to show ambition, doing whatever it takes to keep the club’s three-time player of the year. Whether that means offering him an even greater contract or luring the world’s best to the club with players like Robert Lewandowski being linked with a move to SW6.

However, failure to qualify for Europe’s elite competition and it’s surely lights out on the 27-year-old’s tenure here. Hazard creates the persona of a loyal man who ideally would like to stay in the English capital and lead Chelsea to further success.

Unfortunately, with the club not currently holding the same ambitions, it’s no wonder chasing individual accolades is now high on the superstar’s agenda.
