Fernando Torres has revealed that he spoke to compatriot Alvaro Morata before his move to Chelsea, report AS.
Torres was a fan-favourite at Stamford Bridge, despite never living up to the expectations that arrived with him. The Chelsea faithful would always cheer that little bit louder every time it was Torres who found the back of the net – not that it happened very often!
Morata will be hoping to far surpass Torres’ accomplishments in Chelsea blu, and is already well on his way to doing so. The Spaniard has scored eight goals in his first nine appearances in a Chelsea shirt, and is already proving to be an extremely shrewd acquisition.
We may well have Torres to thank for Morata’s arrival. The Atletico Madrid centre-forward revealed to AS that he spoke to his compatriot ahead of his summer switch to Stamford Bridge:
“I talked with him before his move to Chelsea and I told him that I was just a phone call away if he needed advice. Looking at how he has done, it wasn’t necessary.”
There are more than a few similarities between Morata and Torres in his prime. Let’s just hope he doesn’t experience a similar, unforgiving decline.
