Following a moment of madness against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, David Luiz was shown a straight red card and will miss Chelsea’s next three domestic matches.
Chelsea do have a right to appeal the dismissal, but it’s difficult to see what their argument would it – it was an absolute shocker. If you missed the Brazilian’s horror challenge, you can see it by clicking here.
Luiz will begin to serve his suspension on Wednesday as Chelsea lock horns with Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge in the third round of the EFL Cup. He will also be forced to sit out games against Stoke City (A) and Manchester City (H) in the Premier League, but will return in time to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Presumably Andreas Christensen will deputise for Luiz in his absence. It’s a great opportunity for the Dane to get minutes under his belt and show Antonio Conte just how good he is.
