Former Arsenal and Aston Villa winger Robert Pires believes N’Golo Kante hasn’t performed to his best because he’s exhausted, the Express reports.
Kante had been pivotal not only in Chelsea’s title success last season, but also Leicester City’s triumph the season before.
The 26-year-old hasn’t featured for Chelsea since the 1-0 loss to league leaders Manchester City after getting injured on international duty. Pires spoke to bwin insisting that his countryman has struggled this season because he’s played too many games in the last two years.
Pires is quoted by the Express saying:
“He’s so important for the balance of Chelsea’s team. I think the main reason he’s struggled is that he’s burning out – he’s perhaps too tired.”
Since Kante’s absence, the Blues have struggled to put together consistent performances. Last season’s PFA player of the year was a big miss in the 2-1 shocking loss to Crystal Palace.
There were good wins against Watford and Everton in the Premier League and Carabao Cup respectively. However, Kante’s return will be a much needed boost for the team.
Manager Antonio Conte is hopeful the star midfielder can return for the trip to Rome on Tuesday.
