Chelsea are set to suffer defeat in the race to sign Real Madrid hitman Alvaro Morata, according to The Sun.
The Sun report that Serie A giants AC Milan are close to signing Morata. The Sun believe that Milan will part with an eye-watering £52million in order to secure the Spanish international’s services this summer.
It is also reported by The Sun that Antonio Conte remains an admirer of Morata, having worked with him at Juventus – which is peculiar, considering Conte left Turin four days before Morata joined the Italian champions.
Regardless, The Sun note that Conte is on the look out for a replacement for Diego Costa, whose future with Chelsea remains unclear. However, it doesn’t look as though Morata will be moving to Stamford Bridge.
If Costa does depart, perhaps Conte should give Michy Batshuayi more of an opportunity in the starting side. Batshuayi showed great promise at the tail end of last season, having been starved of minutes for the rest of his debut campaign in England.
