Chelsea have been offered major encouragement in their pursuit of AS Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City have had a £44.5M bid for Mendy turned down by Monaco, with the Ligue 1 champions insisting it will take considerably more than that to convince them to part with the Frenchman.
The Daily Mail believe that Monaco will use Kyle Walker’s £50M transfer fee as an example to City, and demand even more than that in exchange for Mendy.
The tabloid report that Monaco are prepared to sell if their £54M valuation is met, and Man City are not the only side in the race for his signature.
As per the Daily Mail, Chelsea have also lodged an enquiry for Mendy. It remains to be seen if the Blues will turn their interest into a concrete proposal.
Marcos Alonso remains our only natural option at left-wing-back, so that may well be an area that Antonio Conte looks to build on this summer. Mendy certainly ticks all the boxes.
