Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has given Chelsea encouragement in our reported pursuit of winger Wilfried Zaha.
The Metro claim that the Premier League champions are interested in signing the Ivorian, but we are by no means alone in the race to secure his signature. It is mentioned that league leaders Manchester City are also keen on signing the former United man, not that they need anymore players in that area of the field.
Zaha is, by some distance, Palace’s prize asset. He has been phenomenal this term, and you would assume that the club are desperate to keep hold of him. However, Hodgson appears to be taking a more realistic standpoint and has accepted the possibility of Zaha departing – if the price is right.
The ex-England boss is quoted by the Metro conceding that if a desirable offer comes in for Zaha, the club will have no choice but to consider it:
“If Wilf continues as he is doing, then the club will be faced with a situation where someone wants to put a lot of money on the table in order to prise him away.”
“That will be a massive decision for the club because I know how much everyone at Crystal Palace appreciates him and he is the last person we want to lose.”
“It is no good making bold statements that this and that won’t happen because things do happen and when they do, you deal with them.”
Zaha has the ability to surpass both Willian and Pedro, and would, on paper, be a good signing for us. However, we ought to be careful how much we part with if we are to sign him, he has only once played for a top club, and he struggled to perform to his best level.
