Chelsea and Manchester United have suffered a considerable blow in their reported pursuit of Barcelona utility man Sergi Roberto.
Roberto was never really considered one of the most talented to be produced by Barcelona’s illustrious La Masia academy – but he has achieved a lot more than many who were.
The likes of Adama Traore and Gerard Deulofeu were considered the future of Barca’s attack, but they are yet to fully develop into the players they were once thought to be destined to become.
Roberto, on the other hand, has been somewhat of a late bloomer. Whether it be in midfield, or even at right-back, he has proven himself to be an invaluable member of the La Liga leaders’ squad.
As per Soccerladuma, one of Africa’s leading football publications, Roberto has attracted interest from both Chelsea and Manchester United. However, both sides will have to look elsewhere in their pursuit of winter reinforcements.
Roberto has now put pen to paper on a contract extension that will keep him at the Camp Nou until 2022, as announced by the Barcelona Twitter account.

It seems unlikely that our interest in Roberto was anything genuine. He appears to love playing for his boyhood club and has shown no willingness to push for a move to any other club.
