Chelsea are closing in on the signing of AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, and the move could pave the way for Nemanja Matic to join Manchester United, according to the Independent.
The Independent report that Chelsea are in talks with Monaco to sign Bakayoko, with Antonio Conte looking to strengthen his midfield this summer. The Independent note that Bakayoko is likely to cost the Premier League champions £42million.
The Independent believe that Bakayoko’s arrival at Stamford Bridge could encourage Jose Mourinho to make an offer for Chelsea midfield general Matic, who The Special One remains a keen admirer of.
If Bakayoko does put pen-to-paper on a mega money move to Chelsea, it seems unlikely that he will be coming to sit on the bench. Matic could find himself on the bench alongside Cesc Fabregas, so a move away from West London could become enticing to the Serbia international.
If Manchester United do turn their reported interest in Matic into a concrete proposal, it would unlikely take a mega sum of money to convince the club to sell.
