Antonio Conte could make a last-ditch effort to sign Southampton defender Cedric Soares after missing out on the signing of Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, reports the Guardian.
Chelsea had been expecting to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain after Sky Sports reported that the London club had agreed a £35 million deal with Arsenal for the England international. However, after expressing a desire to play in a central midfield role, Sky Sports report that the 24-year-old will sign for Liverpool this transfer window instead.
Following Oxlade-Chamberlain’s decision to choose a move to Liverpool over Chelsea, the Guardian reveal that Antonio Conte has been forced to return to the market, identifying Southampton defender Cedric Soares as his next target.
Chelsea look to have been looking to add a new right wing-back to their squad this summer in order to create more competition for places in defence. Yet, after failing to sign Danilo – a player who the Evening Standard believe the Blues were very interested in – and now Oxlade-Chamberlain, the Guardian claim Chelsea will turn their attention to Cedric Soares.
