Chelsea have been offered a major boost in their pursuit of AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas, report the Metro.
The Metro report that Chelsea were considering making a move to sign Manolas last month, but the move never materialised. Instead, the Blues signed his Roma teammate Antonio Rudiger.
However, the Metro believe that Antonio Conte is still keen to draft in another centre-back ahead of the upcoming 2017/18 campaign, and Manolas could be the answer.
The Metro cite Tuttosport in reporting that Juventus have been put off by Manolas’ £35M price-tag, and have opted to end their pursuit of the Greece international. It is reported that Chelsea are not believed to be intimidated by Roma’s asking price.
There really does not appear to be any need for a new centre-back in Conte’s squad. Rudiger has arrived, Andreas Christensen has returned, we would be better off focusing our resources on other areas.
