Chelsea are interested in signing Valencia right-back Joao Cancelo, according to Sky Sports.

As per Sky Sports, the Premier League champions scouted him ‘extensively’ while he played for Portugal’s U21 side in the European Championships.

He must have impressed the club’s scouts, as Sky Sports note that we continued to watch him through pre-season.

There is no mention in the report of whether any bid is imminent, nor how much Valencia would ask for in exchange for Cancelo, but it is further suggestion that we are in the market for a new right-back.

Victor Moses remains our only natural option at right-wing-back, with Cesar Azpilicueta being able to provide cover in emergencies. It’s an area that Antonio Conte could look to build on this summer. Only time will tell if Cancelo will be the man to fill that void.

There is still plenty of work to be done on the squad, and not a lot of time left. Cancelo would certainly be a good start.
