According to The Metro, Chelsea are leading the way in the race for the signature of Uruguayan wonderkid Gustavo Viera.
The 16-year-old plays for Uruguay’s very own Liverpool FC, who take their name from the well-known English side.
Liverpool’s sporting director has hinted that the striker could be on the move to the Premier League in the near future.
“I think Europe, he could go in a short while,” Gonzalo Mattos told The Sun. “Of course he can play in the Premier League.”
Viera recently broke into the picture at Liverpool and is also now playing for Uruguay’s Under-17s side. As reported by The Sun, the striker also revealed last year that he is a fan of Chelsea, when he said:
“Liverpool and Chelsea are my two favourite teams. I enjoy the physical side of the game.”
“It’s a top league and I like London, my agent lives there and I have been to stay there with him. I would like to play for either Liverpool or Chelsea, but just to play in the Premier League is a dream of mine.”
With Chelsea possibly looking to bolster their striking options next season, following the BBC‘s report that Diego Costa will most likely be leaving the club, a move to West London for the starlet may well be on the cards.
Other strikers that have been linked with Antonio Conte’s side include more battle-tested options, such as Romelu Lukaku and Alvaro Morata, as reported by the Daily Star and Sport Witness respectively.
