Chelsea have made a £25M bid for Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, according to the Telegraph.
Barkley promised great things as a teenager, breaking into the Everton first-team with ease after a string of impressive performances. Some might say that his meteoric rise was Rooney-esque – but not all has gone to plan.
Barkley has struggled with form and fitness over the past 18 months, and as the Telegraph report, he is now entering the final 12 months of his contract with Everton. As per the report, Chelsea are prepared to offer him an escape route before the end of the summer transfer window.
The Telegraph claim that Everton’s initial valuation of Barkley was on eye-watering £50M, but have now softened their stance and are in active talks with Chelsea over securing his sale.
As well as placing a £25M bid for Barkley, the Telegraph add that Chelsea are also hopeful of signing all of Danny Drinkwater, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fernando Llorente before the transfer window closes this Thursday.
