Chelsea are interested in signing Athletic Bilbao centre-back Aymeric Laporte, according to ESPN.
ESPN report that Antonio Conte will look to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer, with John Terry set to leave at the end of the season. According to ESPN, Laporte is on the list of candidates to replace the former England captain.
ESPN note that Manchester City were in the running to sign Laporte last summer, but the Frenchman decided to commit his future to Athletic. It is reported that his buy-out clause now stands at a whopping £54.6million. It remains to be seen whether that’s a price Conte would be willing to pay.
Laporte is widely considered one of the most exciting young centre-backs on the planet. The prospect of him developing alongside Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake is mouth-watering. If all goes to plan, we could have one of the best defences in the world in the future.
