Chelsea are set to taste defeat in their pursuit of Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.
Calciomercato report that Chelsea are in the running to sign Rodriguez this summer, with Arsenal also said to be interested in signing the Switzerland international. Calciomercato note that Rodriguez has a £19million release clause.
However, the Italian outlet believe that Antonio Conte may have to look elsewhere in his pursuit of defensive reinforcements.
According to Calciomercato, AC Milan have agreed personal terms with Rodriguez in principle ahead of a potential summer move. There is, however, one potential stumbling block. Calciomercato believe that Milan are not willing to pay the asking price, and will need to negotiate a smaller fee if they want to secure his signature.
Marcos Alonso is our only natural option at left-wing-back, so that’s an area we will need to build on in the summer. It doesn’t appear as though Rodriguez is now a viable option, however.
