Chelsea have given up hope of signing Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches, report Football Italia.

As per Football Italia, Chelsea, along with AC Milan, were both interested in prising the Portugal international away from the Allianz Arena this summer. However, it looks as though the Blues have opted to look elsewhere, leaving Milan with a free-run.

Bayern have, according to Football Italia, insisted that Sanches is only available on loan, which is not an ideal situation from a Chelsea perspective anyway.

The Italian outlet believe that the Premier League champions will instead pursue Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater, who previously operated alongside N’Golo Kante during the Frenchman’s time with the Foxes.

Going from Sanches to Drinkwater is like dating Emily Ratajkowski and dumping her for Franck Ribery – a major downgrade and completely nonsensical.

Drinkwater has proven himself to be a dependable player, but is inarguably ordinary. Sanches, on the other hand, has the potential to go right to the very top of the game.
