Baba Rahman could soon be on his way to FC Schalke…
Baba is somewhat of a forgotten man at Stamford Bridge, but there was a reason that Chelsea splashed out to secure his services. During his farewell season in the Bundesliga, no player made more tackles throughout the campaign than the Ghanian.
His quality going forward can not be doubted. He can carry the ball forward effectively and his crossing ability is comparable to Marcos Alonso’s. However, similarly to Alonso, he struggles when he’s on the back-foot, which is presumably why Jose Mourinho was not a fan.
After the best part of a year on the sidelines recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament rupture, Baba is now almost back to take to the field once again, and it looks as though Schalke are looking to re-secure his services.
Schalke chief Christian Heidel is quoted by the Daily Star revealing that his side are in negotiations to bring Baba back to Veltins Arena:
“We are in talks with Chelsea regarding Baba Rahman. There are still one or two things to clear up on their end. We could agree on a deal with the player himself relatively quickly.”
Let’s hope that, if the deal goes through, Baba’s loan spell at Schalke is more successful than it was last time. We need him to come back stronger in time for the 2018/19 campaign.
