Chelsea winger Willian has flirted with Barcelona, while claiming that he has no knowledge of any interest in signing him.
The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move to the Nou Camp in in the past week. It was previously thought that Manchester United posed the greatest threat to Willian continuing as a Chelsea player, but it appears as though that is no longer the case.
Ousmane Dembele is still incredibly raw. Barca could do with a player who could provide him with some healthy competition, while not entirely blocking his route into the starting eleven. Willian meets the criteria, thus their interest in the 29-year-old makes sense.
If Willian has ambitions to play for the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid, it may well be now or never. By the end of the year he’ll be the wrong side of 30, he can’t wait any longer if he wants to make that step and further his career.
Willian has had his say on the move, revealing his admiration for Barcelona’s Brazilian contingent, while also adding that he is good friends with them. However, he did later add that he is unaware of Barcelona’s interest in signing him.
He’s quoted by Standard Sport saying:
“Well, they are excellent players with a lot of quality. In addition to great players, they are very good friends.”
“People speculate a lot. We see a lot of things on the internet, but this is not the time to talk about this. I’ve not received any information about that.”
These comments were made prior to Brazil’s elimination from the World Cup, so the move may well accelerate from here.
