Chelsea’s pursuit of Southampton centre-back Virgil Van Dijk could cost a whopping £100million, according to The Sun.
The Sun believe that the champions-elect are keen to draft in Van Dijk this summer to strengthen Antonio Conte’s back-line. Their reported pursuit of the Dutchman may well force the Blues to break the bank.
According to The Sun, Southampton will demand a fee in the region of £50million in exchange for Van Dijk. The tabloid note that the 25-year-old will request a five-year deal worth up to £200,000-a-week to be convinced to make the move to Stamford Bridge
That would take any potential deal over the £100million mark over the course of Van Dijk’s contract. That’s not the only obstacle Chelsea will have to hurdle in order to sign him, either. The Sun report that Manchester City and Arsenal are also interested in securing Van Dijk’s services in the upcoming transfer window.
