Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has instructed the club to explore the possibility of signing Tottenham left-back Danny Rose, according to The Sun.
The Sun believe that Conte has accepted defeat in his pursuit of Juventus’ Alex Sandro, with the Serie A heavyweights thought to be holding out for an eye-watering £60M. He will now look to pursue alternatives.
One player on Conte’s transfer wish-list, according to The Sun, is Danny Rose, who Chelsea are thought to be preparing a £40M bid for.
The Sun note that Conte is likely to face competition from his predecessor Jose Mourinho and Manchester United in the race to secure Rose’s signature – but he has a contingency plan.
The tabloid claim that Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand, formerly of Chelsea of course, is also being considered in case Chelsea fail in their attempts to prise Rose away from White Hart Lane.
It looks like we’re in for a very interesting climax to the summer transfer window.
