Chelsea are standing firm on their asking price for striker Diego Costa, according to Independent.
The Independent report that Antonio Conte’s willingness to sell Costa this summer gave Atletico Madrid encouragement that they would be able to sign their former centre-forward for a cut-price this. However, Chelsea appear to have other ideas.
It is reported that Atletico were initially keen to clinch a £25M deal to re-sign the Spanish international, but Chelsea are holding out for a £44M fee in order to part with Costa, which is considerably nearer his actual market value.
As per the Independent, Atletico manager Diego Simeone made it abundantly clear to his board that he wanted Costa this summer, which may play into Chelsea’s hands, with the La Liga heavyweights likely to be keen to keep one of the best managers in the world content at the club.
One way or another, for £25M or £44M, Costa’s return to Atletico appears to be a foregone conclusion.
