It’s now the crunch time of this transfer season. It has been a relatively active summer this summer for everyone, and Chelsea have had, perhaps less than their fair share of business as compared to, say the Manchester clubs. But the Blues are hoping to close the gap with the addition of Koulibaly this week.
Chelsea have been pursuing a center-back, especially Koulibaly, all summer long and it is looking like the 25 year-old is reciprocating the Chelsea love, according to Goal.com:
“Chelsea are Kalidou Kouliably’s first choice as he continues to look for a move away from Napoli this season after falling out with club president Aurelio De Laurentis”
“Koulibaly’s representatives are hopeful that a deal can be concluded before transfer deadline day, but despite the breakdown of relations at Napoli they cannot yet rule out the Senegal defender staying in Serie A.”
The massive center-back’s agent has previously revealed that a decision on his client will be made sooner rather than later, also per Goal:
“Although our discussions at the moment are confidential,”
“We will be able to announce something in the next few days”
From the buzz made around this deal, and the way Chelsea have conducted business recently, don’t be surprised if more concrete news come out today or tomorrow. But then again, when dealing with Napoli you cannot really have too much hope.
We have analysed Koulibaly’s skill set before and he remains the best realistic target we can get right now. It may be made clear in two days when we face West Ham, just why we categorically cannot go into the new season with our current center-back set. Not number wise, and certainly not quality wise, so let’s hope our board manages to convince Napoli’s eccentric president to part with his best defender, even if that means drowning him with cash.
