Manchester City have reportedly held talks over the past few days over signing Chelsea forward Eden Hazard.
Hazard has been non-committal recently when quizzed about his future at Stamford Bridge. Despite reports following our Premier League title triumph in 2016/17 that the Belgian was set to be offered the most lucrative contract in the club’s history, he still has not put pen-to-paper on a new deal.
The 27-year-old signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract in February 2015, meaning he has just two-years left to run. It’s a concern, but we think it likely that he’ll either depart this summer or commit his future to the club that gave him his first taste of Premier League football.
What is a concern is reports such as this one from Diario Gol, which claims that Man City are pressing ahead with plans to sign Hazard this summer. As unthinkable as it may seem to see him move to the Etihad, they have the financial resources, and Chelsea need the cash.
We would put up one hell of a fight before parting with our prize possession, and it’s hard to imagine his departure sitting well with Roman Abramovich. Until he signs along the dotted line on a contract extension, though, Chelsea fans will have trouble sleeping at night.
