The agent of Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti has told Chelsea how they can beat Barcelona to the the Italian’s signature this summer, report The Metro.
Chelsea have long been admirers of the midfielder, who has been attracting serious attention from Barcelona this summer.
The 24-year-old’s agent, Donato Di Campli, claims that any offers this summer will be carefully considered, with the club’s standards as champions playing a huge role in his decision-making.
“It’s very complicated [to leave], but we have expressed our ideas to PSG,’ he told Sky Italia, as translated by The Metro. ‘We’re not talking about Barcelona or other clubs, it’s about projects.”
“I think I represent a champion and clearly I have questions. To be a champion you have to win.”
“If PSG don’t want to sell him, despite offers from all over Europe, then we’d have to examine our consciences in Italy.”
Di Campli made sure to add that he felt that no Italian club could afford the midfielder, when he said: “I think it’s a deal which is still out of the scope of Italian clubs.”
Despite PSG wanting to keep hold of Verratti, The Metro claim that Barcelona are prepared to offer €88m (£77m) for his services.
Chelsea have an advantage over Barcelona, as English league champions, with the Spanish side having been pipped to the title by Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid.
The Metro claim that Bayern Munich are also interested in Verratti, with Carlo Ancelotti having signed him when at PSG, but the German champions could be priced out if it went to a bidding war for his signature.
Chelsea may also feel that Antonio Conte’s presence could be a positive factor, with the former Italy head coach having previous experience with Verratti in the national team setup.
