Real Madrid have accepted defeat in their pursuit of Chelsea superstars Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois, according to IBTimes.
IBTimes report that the La Liga champions were keen to sign both of them, after they enjoyed stellar campaigns and were influential in Chelsea’s Premier League triumph.
However, it appears as though neither will be making the switch to the Bernabeu this summer. IBTimes believe that the rise of Marco Asensio has led Zinedine Zidane to believe Hazard would be an unnecessary acquisition.
IBTimes also report that Real Madrid have given up on signing Courtois, and will subsequently target Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.
It is noted in the report that Courtois has informed Antonio Conte that he is prepared to stay at the club for the 2017/18 season. Having won the Golden Glove this campaign, and winning his second Premier League title, the Belgium international has little reason to leave West London.
