The Express believe that they know the reason that Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has not put pen-to-paper on his return to Stamford Bridge yet.

According to the Express, Chelsea have offered a club-record £70M for Lukaku, but that may not be enough to convince the Toffees to part with their star man. The tabloid note that Ronald Koeman’s side are expected to demand at least £10M on top of that before a deal will materialise.

The Express also report that Chelsea’s new deal with kit manufacturer Nike is also holding up the transfer. As per the Express, the Blues do not want Lukaku to pose in Adidas clothing during his unveiling, and will instead wait until after July 1st when he can be announced as a Chelsea player in their new, and first, Nike kit.

Lukaku is one of the most high-profile Nike footballers on the planet, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Express’ report has some credibility.
