Chelsea loan watch: Midfielder set to spend season in Serie A, medical completed

Tiemoue Bakayoko

Chelsea are about to part ways with Tiemoue Bakayoko. According to Goal, the Frenchman has undergone a medical with AC Milan as he prepares to join them on a season-long loan.

The optimism we felt when Bakayoko first arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer soon fizzled out following his failure to adapt to life in the Premier League.

Bakayoko, alongside now Liverpool player Fabinho, was the core of AS Monaco’s midfield in 2016/17 campaign. The Ligue 1 side stormed to the title, as well as reaching the Champions League semi-finals.

Bakayoko himself was included in the Champions League team of the season. That player has to still be in there somewhere. There is still hope for him if he rediscovers his best performance level.

After working with him through pre-season, Sarri doesn’t appear keen on putting his neck on the line in hope that Bakayoko will get back to his best. Antonio Conte did it, and it proved to be a foolish move.

As Goal report, Bakayoko is now off to Milan. There is talk of a €35M option to buy in the report. Chelsea run the risk of selling the 23-year-old for below his market value if he has a storming season at the San Siro.

That’s very much an if, though. Chelsea will no doubt be monitoring Bakayoko’s progress throughout the course of the season, as will we. Good luck, Tiemoue!
