Michy Batshuayi has refused to comment on his future at Chelsea, but did reveal that it’s nice to feel ‘welcomed’ at Borussia Dortmund.

Batshuayi’s time at Stamford Bridge was frustrating for all involved. He is so evidently talented, yet Antonio Conte refused to give him a run of games.

Following a superb pre-season campaign, and being handed starts in the Community Shield against Arsenal and opening game defeat to Burnley, you could be forgiven for thinking that Batshuayi had finally earned Conte’s trust.

However, as soon as Alvaro Morata reached full match-fitness – he nailed down the starting position at the spearhead of our attack. Batshuayi was subsequently left out in the cold.

Having joined Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund in January, Batshauyi has found the back of the net eight times in 11 appearances. He’s on fire.

During an interview with Belgian outlet HLN, translated into English by The Sun, Batshuayi revealed how welcome he feels at the Westfalenstadion:

“Do you know what it is: I am just warmly welcomed at Dortmund – I immediately got love. Then you are automatically better.”

Batshuayi was then quizzed as to whether he believes he will be returning to West London in the summer, to which he insisted that it was not the time to discuss his future. The aforementioned outlets quote the 24-year-old in saying:

“I do not want to talk about that. And neither about Chelsea. Maybe later.”

Chelsea have a striker crisis. Morata is not performing and Olivier Giroud is merely a short-term fix. In Batshuayi we have a player with immense, raw potential, who can go to the very top of the game.

We ought to do everything in our power to ensure that he is playing in a Chelsea shirt next season.
