We’re going to keep this short and sweet.
Chelsea fell to a 2-1 defeat to 20th place Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Yes, that really did just happen.
Going into today’s contest, Palace sat on zero points, rock bottom of the table. They hadn’t even scored a goal. Yet they’ve beaten the Premier League champions – it’s utterly embarrassing.
Cesar Azpilicueta handed the Eagles an early advantage with an own-goal. That was swiftly cancelled out by Tiemoue Bakayoko’s first ever Premier League goal. Just before the half-time break, Wilfried Zaha restored Palace’s lead, and Chelsea had no reply.
It’s not looking good for Antonio Conte’s men, who are now nine points behind Manchester City, who are brushing aside everyone in their path. It may be time for us to adjust our expectations for this season – that’s not a team capable of competing for the title. Not when they’re playing like that.
Anyway, here’s our player ratings for the Blues:
Courtois 5, Azpilicueta 3, David Luiz 3, Cahill 2, Moses 4, Fabregas 8, Bakayoko 7, Alonso 5, Willian 2, Hazard 2, Batshuayi 1. (Subs: Zappacosta 7, Pedro 6, Musonda 5)
