While transfers are dominating the headlines in world football, a big news story was the return of Mykhailo Mudryk to action at Chelsea after his doping ban was reduced.
He went from out of the picture entirely to flying out to Hong Kong in a matter of days, and has already trained with the group.
Xabi Alonso is speaking about him in his press conference right now, with some surprising information.
Mudryk could feature in Chelsea friendly tomorrow
“We are thrilled Misha could be with us. You can see his smile and how good it was to feel part of the team. We are happy that he is back with us in the team,” Alonso said this morning.
But how realistic is it to expect a guy who has not played competitive football for 18 months to get on the pitch? More realistic than we thought, apparently. Mudryk has been keeping fit training alone, and is going to feature in some capacity tomorrow.
“He came directly from the airport to the hotel. Yesterday was more about the feelings and emotions, [rather] than to assess fitness level,” Alonso said.
“But yes, he could play. 90 minutes too early. He can be selected, he can play.”
