No more excuses: Alonso says Palmer’s injury issues are behind him

Cole Palmer has struggled with injuries and fitness issues in the last 18 months, but his manager claims they’re behind him now.

Cole Palmer showed in his first two years at Chelsea that he can be a world class player, but we’ve not seen enough good performances lately.

Xabi Alonso knows a key part of his early months at Chelsea will be getting the best out of Palmer, and he answered questions about him today.

Alonso on how he plans to get the best out of Palmer

“Yes. I think that sometimes you need to go through a difficult moment with an injury or whatever to learn from that,” Alonso said in quotes on the club’s official website.

“I think that Cole has gone through a difficult period with the injury, and now he’s working really hard to have the prevention not to have to feel those symptoms. Since the first day [of preseason], he’s been working really hard to avoid that.”

The excuses have run out for Palmer now. He’s fit and fresh and has had plenty of rest and motivation for the new season. He’s got a new manager who is making him the centre of the team. He has to deliver now.
