Chelsea are playing after everyone else in the Premier League this week, with their game against Fulham coming on Monday night.
So of course, for some reason they’re doing an early press conference, on a Thursday. Xabi Alonso has just sat down to talk to the press.
One of the most interesting topics he covered was on Levi Colwill. The central defender missed most of last season injured, and while he did return for the final games, he still needs to be treated carefully.
Alonso talks up Levi Colwill ahead of big kick off

Alonso had the highest praise for the defender, but also pointed out that it was important to let him go step by step:
“I would say having a proper pre-season has helped him in taking the right steps in the right moment,” Alonso said.
“We don’t want to rush him too quickly because of what he had last year. Now, after pre-season, we are expecting him to play in a good way with the confidence and the fitness to have him at his best level. For me, he is one of the best centre backs in the world.”
That’s some praise. WE really hope Levi starts the season well, has no injury issues and starts proving Alonso right right away.
