The news coming out of Serie A this week is that young defender Giorgio Scalvini has agreed a new long term contract with Atalanta. But that doesn’t mean Chelsea’s interest in the youngster is going anywhere, according to a report from TeamTalk.
The 22 year old centre back looks a true rising star, having fought back from an ACL injury a couple of years ago. This new deal certainly makes him more expensive, but doesn’t rule out a move entirely. It’s pointed out that Newcastle have made multiple attempts to sign the defender in the past.
Chelsea lining up another major Atalanta negotiation
Chelsea bought Marco Palestra, another exciting Italian defender of around the same age this summer. We wouldn’t be at all surprised if they were in for Scalvini next summer.
If he keeps playing at a high level, he could fetch a fee far higher than the £48m we paid for Palestra, especially now he’s signed this new deal.
