Players are always vulnerable when on international duty, when media from their home country get relatively unfettered access to them. That’s especially true at the World Cup, when they’re far from home and there’s an extended period for the media to wear them down.
Marc Cucurella is already getting asked about his Chelsea future a lot, having let slip on Spain duty back in March that he’s uncertain about the Chelsea project. But so far at the World Cup he’s been positive, and today was no different.
The full back spoke about how excited he was to be working under Xabi Alonso.
Cucurella excited to get to work with Alonso
“Yes [I’m excited]. I’ve spoken with him and he inspired a lot of confidence in me,” Cucurella said on Spanish radio tiday.
“I’ve also spoken with Grimaldo and Borja, who have worked with him, and they spoke very highly of him. The project seems very interesting.”
It doesn’t mean he’s not going – but he’s not taking the chance to push himself towards Atletico Madrid or other interested clubs, at least.
